Hibernation - A Ghazal Poem by Lois Read

Hibernation - A Ghazal

Brash goldenrod has gone sedate
October's excess spent once more.

Skies that sang cerulean songs
were silent and gray went once more.

Calm conceals the threat of change
that planet Neptune sent once more

birch trees soon will genuflect,
with loads of snow be bent once more.

Harsh winter winds will stiffen life
til spring, when they relent once more

when voices silent, roused from sleep
will waken and foment once more.

I'll leave you here alone my dear
and solo be content once more.
