Yoga In Provence



Listen for the bird singing two mountains away.
Leap-frog over sounds of morning
dogs barking
chisels hitting stone
children shouting to school

When you hear the bird singing two mountains away
prostrate yourself on a prayer rug
of lavender
or thyme mixed with rosemary
The singing bird will recognize your heart.

Return then to yoga on the patio
upside-down in downward-facing dog
the morning sounds
transfigured now
caress your body, sinking into stone.
