Here Lies Poem by Lyndsey Grant

Here Lies

Rating: 5.0

Empty shell that once held such vibrant light
Distinguished before the wick was charred enough
Or scarred enough by life
Because even in the short span that held your breath
Time was ticking none the less
And so I express my condolences to what could have
Or at least what should have been
A beautiful existence
Here lies another soul that couldn’t understand
Couldn’t see past the walls that surrounded her
And pushed her farther back
Couldn’t clear the fog
That kept on smothering her brain
In a vain attempt to get by
Stomped by circumstance
Mauled by the growling teeth of deceits
That proved too much on such an innocent heart
Here lie all the believers
That worshiped faith in mankind
Only to be flipped off
And have their backs turned to
Shame carrying no prejudices
Hurt no specific hue
Fear felt by all
Lay a flower on the casket of memories
Long ago buried and forgotten
Tie it with all the dreams and hopes
Never fulfilled
Never given the sunlight to grow
And flourish
Time has ticked its last tock
Dripped its last drop
And spews out of her bloodied mouth
Knocking us on our backs
Hands crossed
Eyes and mouths sewn shut
With insightful force
