Hen Pecked Man Poem by Francis Duggan

Hen Pecked Man

Rating: 5.0

Great god says he my nagging wife
Will cause me to take my own life,
She's waiting brooding for a fight
When I come home from work each night.

It's clear my heart she's out to break
My own meals I have got to make
And she speaks in a most uncivil way
When to me she has something to say.

At first she was my gentle spouse
Pride of my heart and queen of my house
Oh what went wrong within the head
Of the lady like woman I wed.

To me it seems she's mental sick
She acts much like a lunatic
With her I know no happiness
What have I done to deserve this? .

For I'm a decent sort of bloke
Who doesn't drink or even smoke
I give her most of my week's pay
And from other women keep away

What I would really like to do
Is walk out on this scolding shrew
But I must stay for our childrens sake
And so her abuse I'll have to take.
