Heartless Lullaby Poem by jho argote

Heartless Lullaby

I'll never forget
the song that woke me up,
the song that cradled me to sleep.
who am i to forget?
the arms that never let me fall,
the tender scent of her hair.
What have i done wrong?
now you're the one asleep,
i cannot ease your pain.
i watched the line rise and fall,
oh, mother,
please stay.
tears flow uncontrollably.
i promised not to cry
for years of love,
I'll sing it back to you,
my cradle song:
your lullaby.
through sobs I'll bring back every tone from childhood memories,
through tears I'll sing to you every song that you have sung for me.
i know,
it won't change anything,
i know.
death will come,
life's too short,
time's too fast...
forgive me,
i promised not to cry,
mother....
mother!
with your last breath,
please,
please hear me sing, your cradle song:
my heartless lullaby.
