He Did It Poem by ESPN CHICK

He Did It

1,2,3 strikes you're out
He tries harder each and every day
But every time he goes to the plate
He chokes up and the crowd boo's

To hear those boo's is just another mistake he's made in his life
You can't see the scars upon his wrists but they are there
To him he can't do anything right

On and off the field he feels like such a disgrace
He thought if he could play baseball everything would just go away
All the pain, the fears, the suicide thoughts
But he was wrong no matter how hard he tries he knows he won't ever succeed

Maybe to other people baseball is just a game
But to him, he wanted it to be his life
To be something that people would remember him by after he's long gone

He goes home to see his parents fight over and over
It's a broken home and tries so hard to escape it
At 17 he doesn't know what else he should do
All those thoughts run through his mind

Suicide being his first thought and option
He practices every day to become a better ball player
Trying to start all over again and clearing all thoughts

Then one day one evening
With him up to bat with a 3-2 count bases loaded with 2 outs
Game tied bottom of the 9th
He hits one straight out of the ballpark and its a game winner

He finally did it
Finally he proved to everyone that he is worth something
That he can be the best

As his team carries him he knows for sure now that he can do it
No more bad thoughts
And has he looks into the stands he see's his parents hugging
From then on that broken home is slowly being put back the way it should be

He's finally everything he wished he would be
Now his scars are now stories fading
His thoughts are the past and now he is the hero
