Haunted House Poem by Enriquito Lucero Jr.

Haunted House

Creeping over an old
creaky floor,
Hearing voices
never heard before:

Of whispers in the
dead of the night,
Bringing chills
that sneak in fright.

As footsteps walk
with chains in clangor
In the wooden stairway,
down to the corridor.

A shriek I heard
from my daughter's room
I wish this night
it's not her doom.

I went inside
and saw her sleep
Her muffled snore
of sounds so deep.

Then I saw in glance
a reflection in the mirror
My daughter sitting
beside the bed in horror.

She was sharply smiling
with blood-shot eyes,
Staring forlorn at the wall
as if somebody dies

I looked again
as she sleep in bed,
She was snoring
so asleep, as I've said.

Yet four hours will tick
before the morrow,
Could we survive
and leave tomorrow?
