Harsh Words Poem by Dany Sandell

Harsh Words

Words spoken are not always forgotten,
stuck in memory and remembered in beauty and ugliness.
I have become a house,
an ever present place of survival and birth of these words,
with the darkest and lightest of places.
Hatred and love conflict,
yet are twin bruises on the walls of my house.
Both can comfort,
both can hurt,
and both can be portrayed as weakness and strength.
My house is full of these growing twins.
They rage,
forever insatiable for the attention they crave.
Their hand prints tarnish and bruise
my walls,
Yet the pain they conflict is just a reflection
and a realization of the truth
that we all try to ignore.
