Harsh Words

According to John Aubrey's 'Brief Lives',
William Davenant became Sir
as a Royalist, playwright
and restorer of the stage after Cromwell,
and claimed he was Shakespeare's son;
his mother, the hostess of Oxford's Crown -
a wife, a beauty and a wit.

The son of a whore
and a cuckolder and bastardiser,
the bastard was proud of it.
