Harmony Lane Poem by Talile Ali

Harmony Lane

(A Father's Day Poem)
Harmony Lane

I usta follow my dad everywhere
When I was just a child
He'd start his day off walking down
The street's where I'd run wild
I'd see him and I'd follow him
Hiding behind pools and trees
My dad would walk so quietly
Smoking his cigarette in the breeze
I'd follow him for blocks it seemed
And he would never know
Until we neared the restaurant
We'd frequent as we'd go
He'd grab me up so quickly
Id smile and laugh away
And me and dad would go inside
And share some time that way
He'd order me some fries and a burger
He'd have a doughnut and a cup a Joe
The waitresses would smile and tease
Oh how they loved him so
he'd watch me as I'd eat away
And when I was finally done
He'd swoop me up and pay the bill
And off we'd go for more fun
Whether it would be going to Greek town
Where he would play some cards
Or on his walk to friends he had
Along they way we'd walk
We'd finally end up back home
My mom would be a mess
She talk to him about spoiling me
And he'd smile and give her a caress
Oh how I love my father so
he never would complain
About the son who'd follow him
Each day down Harmony Lane!
