POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Guyana Chronicle: 20.10.2008: 'Letters'
Our country is under sieged!

THEY came one by one with military hardware,
on the surface of our water for us to be aware.
That they are in-charge and in control of us,
that we are helpless to grasp of what is ours.

Our Guyana, is under siege by another nation,
with much provocation leading to aggression.
They have invaded our territorial water,
with their armoured fleets on our border.

They have insulted our sovereign integrity,
when they have landed on our territory.
They are brutal and they are so bare-faced,
when they have seized our ship in disgraced.

Oh! Guyanese, how much more can we bare,
to stand aside and to give-in what's not theirs.
They have raped and robbed all of our ladies,
while they were giving births to our babies.

Our fathers and brothers were their slaves,
building their houses and digging graves.
Much more to them, whom we have served,
as humans to care with pity and of no love.

Oh yes! They all have looked like humans,
but oh my gosh! They are all evil demons.
walking upright as God created creatures,
but in their inside, they stink as monsters.

Wake up! Oh fellow Guyanese and stand up,
stand up right now, for this is our sole right.
To fight piracies who are stealing our tea cups,
leaving us with nothing in the darkest night.

Wake up, oh fellow Guyanese in unity to unfold
the Surinamese invaders, must now be told.
That we are a united Guyanese nation evermore,
in unity, we will defend our Guyana much more.

We are a nation of peace, integrity and tolerance,
which shines our adoration to God in obedience.
War, is not on our dining table for us to feed,
as we are a very rich nation much more to heed.

Provocation from other nations bears confrontation,
a gesture which we do not seek, such as murderation.
But if life has to travel beyond, in a distressed manner,
our Guyanese nation will embark without surrender.

Our Executive President, is the father of our nation,
the captain of our ship, piloting us in one direction.
His mission, is one motion, to eliminate aggression,
leading us out of submission in dialog for integration.

He may seem very simple and humble as he looks,
as he has read all the mantras from the holy books.
He will captain his ship, as in defence to his country,
victory will prevail and entail our sovereign territory.

Wake up in unity, oh! Guyanese and come on board,
let us defend our country and maintain our integrity.
As we are One people, One nation and One destiny,
Let us uphold such as one family with hands of unity.

Our Guyana needs us now, ever more than yesterday,
let us continue grow our fruitful seeds in our pathway.
And shines the light of love that pierced life's way,
only so we can endure 'UNITY' all the way for today.

Guyanese from afar, have leaned much helping hands,
in combating our neighbours' lusts and creed for lands.
'Not an ounce of clay' they will ever have on our soil,
as we are ready and prepared to give our body and soul.

Guyana is ours, our land of opportunity and prosperity,
we are toiling our soil with sweat and blood of purity.
The solace of solitude to solemnity breed our integrity,
that gives to us our sovereignty as a nation with dignity.
