Happy Independence Day-1 Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

Happy Independence Day-1

Rating: 3.5

Honourable elders and beloved youngsters
As a first step, let us salute all those great
People who had sacrificed their lives for a
Prolonged Indian freedom struggle;
Yoke of colonialism thus ended on 15th August 1947

India is a land of manifold cultures, religions and languages
Not to mention the secular fabrics and
Democratic constitution in full swing;
Every year, on this day, we, the Indians,
Proudly celebrate our Independence day,
Exhibiting our traditional and cultural art forms from
Northern to southern and eastern to western states
Diversity then flies high with tricolour flags;
External vested interests sometimes intrude to
Nip our peace and tranquility;
Coming and going are some of our internal problems that
Every democracy in the world comes across at times;

Distortion or exaggeration of an issue by media also intervenes to our social life;
All we face with democratic way, because we have our own great strength:
Yes, that is Unity in Diversity, the quality of Hindustan hamaara.

(An Acrostic Poem. First letter of each line spells out: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY)
