Hangman Poem by Neil Graham Marsden

Hangman

Fall out from the shadows come forth to the light
step up to the gallows and crawl that last flight.
Behind are your dreams slowly waving goodbye
That cold heart will soon be blown out to the sky.
This world and its wonders now safe here behind,
from disasters played out in your mind.
The grim reaper’s cortège rolls out in the night,
shielding your cruel visions away from our sight.
Those deeds that decided your fate here today,
defiled God’s commandments in every way.
Your last day of judgement is now on the line,
the devil is hungry and yearning to dine.
The scars that you carved into my mind that way,
will remain in my heart until my final day.
Your murderous hands shame the whole of mankind
those memories you left me have shattered my mind.
Each day here on forward I’ll try to forget
that ice cold November when you and I met.
The day when you stole all my dreaming away
changed loving for loathing in my heart that day.
Those four empty nests that you left in your wake
God’s tiny angels that were not yours to take.
Those images burn like a fire in my head,
now it’s your grotesque life we’ll extinguish instead.
