Halloween Poem—my Friend Dave Poem by John Beaton

Halloween Poem—my Friend Dave

Rating: 5.0

Well, I went for a walk last Halloween
on the scariest night you've ever seen.
and to prove to myself I was not afraid
I went to a place where the dead are laid:
a graveyard! Ooh! Then a voice from a grave
called out to me, "Hi, my name's Dave."
Well, I turned to see what was going on,
and before me stood this skeleton.
He said, "I'm glad of your company.
It's lonely here in the cemetery,
and the only night that the dead can leave
their tiny coffins is All Hallows Eve.
So here I am. Do you want to play? "
And, at that, I turned and I ran away,
but what was that sound ringing in my ear
and getting louder and ever more near?

Clickety, clickety, clickety, clack.
I‘m following you. I'm behind your back.
I'm going to give you a tickle attack!
Clickety, clickety, clickety, clack.

The next thing I knew, I was in a pickle.
He'd caught up to me and was giving me a tickle—
Hahhahhaha—
I could hardly talk, but I took my chance—
Hahhahhaha—
and I yelled, "Please stop, or I'll pee my pants."
He let me go so I said, "Alright
I'll play for a while." He said "Outa sight! "
And we played at tag and at blind man's buff
but I heard someone coming and I said, "Enough."
Then two little girls who looked real cute
dressed up as witches with bags of loot
like Snickers bars and jelly beans
came running round a corner being chased by teens
who shouted at them, "Stop, give us your treats! "
But Dave yelled, "Hey, back off, deadbeats! "
and they turned and froze then, horrified,
they took to their heels and they tried to hide
but, no matter where they went to ground,
they couldn't outrun that awful sound:

Clickety, clickety, clickety, clack.
I‘m following you. I'm behind your back.
I'm going to give you a tickle attack!
Clickety, clickety, clickety, clack.

Well he caught up to them and he gave them tickles
Hahhahhaha—
And above the laughter you could hear the trickles
Hahhah, pshhh, haha, psshhh—
as every last one of them peed their pants.
It happened in a garden and they watered the plants
Well they splooshed back home looking very upset
and the little witches asked them why their pants were so wet.
But they said to the witches, "We are sorry we were mean, "
and the little witches answered, "Have a happy Halloween."
I said, "Dave you're brave." He said, "You're nuts,
I can't be courageous coz I haven't got the guts."
I said, "Anyway, I think you are great.
Same time next year, let's make it a date."
And now, as you can see, we are very good friends
but that's not how this story ends…
It's really, really scary. You should all go, "Boo-hoo, "
coz it ends with Dave coming after you!

Clickety, clickety, clickety, clack.
I‘m following you. I'm behind your back.
I'm going to give you a tickle attack!
Clickety, clickety, clickety, CLACK.

That was a lot of fun! You had me laughing. And guessing. And I don't know what. Very enjoyable write and read. But with all due respect to Rose Marie, you might have a little competition with my poem Halloween Night At The Cemetery. However, you don't need to worry, John because Dave will come after me and I'll just laugh it off!

What a wonderful and funny poem. Very entertaining. The recurring word: clickety...enhanced the beauty of this write. This should be the poem of the day on Halloween Day. Superbly penned. Enjoyed reading it.10++++++××÷

Thanks, Rose Marie. It's been fun to perform for audiences that include lots of kids. I put up a sound file but I guess it takes a little while to pass the approval process before it appears.
