Grief Poem by Oreu Leunoto

Grief

This is grief
the pain that heals
the breath that prays
the silence that steals
all that is and was
a life no more
a light gone dark
a smile frozen
with no emotion
but a memory held

My tears
carry an agony
my stare
stays faceless
among strangers
bearing my shackles alone

Reprisals
against nature
are an injury
upon oneself

Like a poison spread
leading
to the hearse
no music
no lament
only mild contempt
and understanding
