Great Nuakhai Greet Poem by Dr Pintu Mahakul

Nuakhai means intake of new food grains after harvesting of first new crop of paddy through a special mass or public ceremony. A man on occasion of this, sings and dances with joy to greet his beloved friends and all nearer and dearer. So, man sings and tells, " Please let us meet and meet and greet each other. Today is the great Nuakhai festival. So, all of us should unite and meet. All houses are neat and clean and these are coloured. Oh my dear friends, on such occasion new seats are ready. You please come and sit. Where are you all I do not know? But where ever you may be please come and gather. Already new food made up of new grains is ready. Please come and have together. This new grain in which food is prepared is worshipped in Goddess temple. This festival is one unique example for all and famous in world. Great goddess blesses to the region of Great Sambalpur. Goddess is the controller of the region and Sambalpur represents the entire world. Goddess of Sambalpur is nature mother herself. So she covers the entire world. Even by her bless the tract of open uncultivated up land in miracle gives rise to grain by crop. That grain lights the life. For the festival of Nuakhai the grain is collected from the crop of such land only which happens early to the normal cultivation. Pure food is prepared from new grain only. Pure food gives rise to pure mind. Pure mind generates pure thoughts. Due to pure thought a man performs pure action. This special festival is the point of world attraction. This again attracts the world people. The Nuakhai festival tells that entire world is only one family. Strangely or mysteriously through this festival we do secure food for all categories of richer or poor people. During such occasion we do not find any difference among ruler or poor or daily labour. We securely keep them all in mind in a place of love. Mother, sister and brother and all wear new dresses in this festival. We bear for them all and also we offer new dresses to poor and needy men. Instead of caste, colour, religions and nationality or poor, rich or middle class we all unite together with love for each other and we do not fear at all at any cost. Even a little edible fruit like pear we share among each other. Really Goddess is the great nature mother and we worship her lotus feet too great. Through her long sheet of bless she builds crop garden for us. In her bless green field sings and wind blows and we too meet each other. In such a great occasion of this festival we get us together, love each other and we all greet each other as the festival of Nuakhai does greet us.
