Good Night Poem by Briony Nicholls

Good Night

Rating: 5.0

When all is said and done,
In the full bright-glare of certain sun,
Then comes the slow murky descent of uncertain night.

Billowing shadows emerge from the ennui of tired minds,
Giving rise to a company of devilish presences, each
With their own Gordian knot of ‘what ifs’

Like a marching continuum of toy soldiers
They are simply following orders
From dark unknowable corners.

The knives are now out, the nails in readiness
To hammer out each assailing morass
You are in the circle, they are cleverly poised around you;

And when the circus is in full animated drive,
The realisation finally arrives,
That it is time to finally turn off the light
And turn in for the night!

Very intense imagery throughout this poem, ending with an ordinary, everyday occurrence. Sequence of imagery is brilliant and enticing. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn

Sometimes to meditate and close our eyes for a new day, the healing and the soothing of the mind whilst sleeping can be amazing. Thank you for your words
