Feline Eyes Poem by Briony Nicholls

Feline Eyes

Rating: 4.3

There is nothing else right now,
Except you and me.

Stroking your cheek, your little face strains
To savour and bask in the warmth

Of this moment that has become laced
With the glory that emerges when everything ceases.

Time stops, the silence is deafening -
I think I have now stopped merciless aging in its tracks

Just like the ageless moon,
Perfectly still and beaming in the warmth of this moment.

All the loud raucous tidings from past eras
Are now completely snuffed out!

Only your skinny little body rests with relish on my lap
You turn your ear over for more stroking

And I look into your feline eyes and suddenly see -
Some kind of annihilating immortality!

Those were glimpses of the eyes of Egyptian Anubis
That are immobilising me!

But you look at me as if I am some miracle
So awe-beholden you are to me right now.

Though you could just as easily be on your way,
You remain glued to my lap, as if, as if

Not a drop of this moment should be lost,
But lapped up like rare golden milk from an ancient land.

There is something significant, something secret
That is being whispered through the ages

Like an endless ripple that will never end it’s bedazzling
Concentric multiplying effect

In the whole universe of this moment
Consisting of only you and me

A fine effort. And so true. Cats are really lost in a moment of love, when they purr away ecstatically.

Wow! Am in awe of this great poem! Reminds me of my beloved Kitty whom shared 18 years of my life! Have added to my list of favorites! Wonderful job on this piece!
