Good Memories Will Remain With Us Poem by Francis Duggan

Good Memories Will Remain With Us

Good memories will remain with us until the day we die
And I often recall my happy days in distant Lisnaboy
Wildflowers bloomed in the sunlit fields after the Summer rain
And the cuckoo's voice in the leafy grove was to be heard again.

The winds of June had Summer warmth and buttercups bloomed by the rill
And on the hedgerow blackbird piped the one with golden bill
And his quieter partner hidden nearby sat in her cup shaped nest
With three green eggs with specks of brown kept warm beneath her breast

The skylark o'er the rushy field was carolling in the sky
And he faded to a small speck as upwards he did fly
Until he disappeared from view though his song I still could hear
And I fancy I can hear him yet his pleasant notes ringing clear.

The weather temperatures quite nice around 25 degrees
And around the hedgerows all day long the wild born brown honey bees
were collecting nectar from the flowers for to take to their hive in a cavity
In a decaying log in a hedge or by fence or high in trunk of old tree.

The swallows o'er their Summer fields they chirped and flew all day
When Winter is in Lisnaboy and icy frost blow gray
They Winter south of their birth place far south and far away
But they always return again for to greet the birth of May.

Good memories will remain with us until we breathe our last
And I retain good memories of my very happy past
when June was in her infancy and the lark upwards did fly
And he carolled forth his pleasant notes o'er the fields of Lisnaboy.
