Going Blank Poem by Amy Carr

Going Blank

My mind goes blank when I think of you
these days.
Where there were once fanfares of adoration and praise,
Is only a drowning buzz, like a dial tone
A holding pattern of thoughtlessness devoid
of language.
I stare at the screen trying to tell you
something, anything, of how I feel
Only to run up against the noise in my head.
The more I push for clarity, the louder the
buzzing silence gets,
Millions of words and thoughts piled
on top of one another settle in my skull
Muting my love and wrenching the gap even
further.
