Going Away, But Not To Exit Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Going Away, But Not To Exit

Notice how I’m drawing my footsteps
outside your door, in case you wonder
where it is I might head.

I counted the hairs on your head
how intricate and magical
as they brushed upon my eager skin.

You were then sound asleep
exhaling breathes that of a sweet child
I wanted to steal you, but didn’t.

I’m going away but not to exit;
soon I shall be the perfect human
for me, for you, for us.

For now you’re cradled with my hopes
I sprinkled them with extra melodies
in case you long to embrace my voice.

Think of me, remember me always;
for now we shall part
only to be reunited, eternally as one soul.
