God's Getaway Car Poem by Luke Navarro

God's Getaway Car

Lost under the glow of a nuclear sky.
A sky that hasn't quite fallen yet.
A sky that hangs loosely.
Suspended by the heavens from nothing more than brittle fishing line that we found in God's tackle box.
A tackle box lost in the trunk of one of the many getaway cars that God owns.
He keeps these cars outside the many flop houses he would visit across the valleys.
Flop houses where the bodies would stack like coffins waiting for the earth.
Coffins where his children slept.
They all looked so beautiful, so innocent in the rear view mirror of God's getaway car...
