Glance Poem by Christina Simmons

Glance

Rating: 3.5

Who are you!
A diamond or my best friend?
When I set eyes on you
I wanted to look deep within
Your gorgeous dazzling eyes,
I could not fearful you'd sense...
The passion I felt towards you

With tasteless teasing I annoy myself
Each time I see you I want to speak
But can't find words
Instead instinctively I humbly glance

Although our stare crossed path,
My sixth sense tells me the attraction is mutual...
I dare not approach,
Surely I will fade away
into a dense cloud of smoke.

Doubts I have
maybe you're committed,
Confusion I don't want to bring,
Guilt I don't want you to experience,
Maybe there's someone
in your existence loving you...

Admirably and comely are your looks,
Keep my distance I must,
Far away I try to stay...
But calming influence has no boundaries.

So far I've given a quick glance,
Inquisitively I brood of your domain,
With hesitancy I speculate,
Maybe at not being your classification...
And maybe possibly,
Giving more than a quick glance.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Having an attraction for someone, and feeling they feel the same? But having doubts they maybe committed to someone else, at the same time hoping you'll let go your fears and approach them about the way you truly feel. This poem was written as an entry in a competition to commiserate a memorial in aid of Percy B Shelley back in 1998, before I became disabled.
