Gifted Eighteenth Century Writer Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Gifted Eighteenth Century Writer

Every schoolboy will know of the
great British author and poet
Daniel Defoe...whose name clearly
rhymed with his classical story
'Robinson Crusoe'.

Many more novels were written
by this great author including
The True-born Englishman, and
Shortest Way With Dissenters,
the latter, causing him to be sent to
Newgate Prison ~ where he wrote
Hymn to the Pillory.

'Robinson Crusoe' a story
from history was written by the
great Daniel Defoe, followed by
Journal of the Plague Years.
Having spent his lifetime in London
he died there at age seventy-one...
Come, dry those tears!
