Getaway Shack Poem by Barry Middleton

Getaway Shack

I want to go back to the getaway shack
hidden away far from the town
and if I could go where the blackwaters flow
I'd wait for the sun to go down

the darkness is cold but fire warms the soul
as the radio plays an old tune
I remember a girl and the stars in a whirl
and a kiss by the light of the moon

on a magical night in the dim candlelight
I return to a long lost trance
without any care in the crisp autumn air
I hold her again as we dance

it's only a dream that drifts like a stream
and all I am left is the song
that still brings a smile after many a mile
for the one I have missed for so long

Thank you Annette. Glad you liked it. The poem is about a real place and events from the past. The image is not the actual place but it's very similar.

should be a song, Barry. Love the rhythm and sound of your words; very soothing...How come I'm not getting your poems sent to my email anymore?

Thanks Marianne. Glad you liked it. The email notifications are not working for new poems. They do work for comments and replys. This website has had a lot of problems lately. Hopefully it will all get fixed eventually.
