From Afar Poem by DAVID TERRY

From Afar

I think of you now only from afar
And I wonder how you are
Doing without me in the hard times of your life
Living through days and nights of strife
Are you well or are you lonely?
Knowing you are the only
One who will hold my heart
Even though we are now apart
I make my hopeful wishes on each star
When all I can do is think of you from afar

I wonder about you alone here late at night
Wishing for just one more midnight sight
Of your eyes and your body sleeping next to mine
The feel of your skin and your hair so fine
Yet later I will again be alone
For what I did in part to atone
And before I will drift off to sleep
I will pray for your heart so loved and deep
Each day would end in one long tonight
As I lie in bed and wonder about you late at night

You’re in my every thought and every dream
Even though from afar it surely must seem
To be foolish pride that keeps me far away
At the start of each morning and close of each day
Feeling you just as close as skin
In every prayer, in every thought I begin
To resolve that none of this would be in vain
And in happiness together we would end this pain
Calling to your heart is now my only theme
Because you’re in my every thought and every dream
