Friends Forever Poem by Jill Shah

Friends Forever

I once knew you, love.
We once created worlds, built
Just for us, to our specifications-
Worlds filled with intrigue, excitement,
Glory, ecstasy-
Everything we wanted, but didn't
Have in the 'real' world.
And just as we got it in reality,
We shattered our beautiful world
And went our separate ways...
To success?
Now we pass on the streets,
But you don't notice me.

Oh stranger, with your artificial smile.
You've stolen a close friend's honest eyes.
Their innocence replaced with your
Harshly fake 'success'.
Now even their friendly, knowlegeable blue eyes
Are replaced with empty shards of blue ice.
Your laugh is painful-
Too high-pitched, unfriendly.
It shoots nails of broken memories into my ears.
And your stare is calculating,
Shoulder's tense, ready to adjust
In case of a faux-pas.
Oh stranger!
What have you done with my friend?
