Free Nation Poem by shakil ahmed

Free Nation

Rating: 5.0

Free Nation Shakil Ahmed.

We are free nation, holding heads high above,
Our flag of freedom flutters in the breeze
But our ancestral virtues are thrown in the sea
In the deep belly of ocean, slowly they freeze.

Thousands died for the cause of freedom
And laid their heads on terrible scaffold
Loving our country more and more
Which the pages of history will unfold.

In a scheduled day with pomp and ceremony
We remember their heroic sacrifice
In our general talks they often come
And we uphold their tragic demise.

Their invisible souls, wandering everywhere,
Surrounding us in every friction of moments
We are in empty hands, nothing to return
We fulfill our vow just making comments.

We are demeaning the glory of our nation
By our wrong doings and quarrels
We have divided the nation into thousand sects
We don’t look to our ancestral laurels.

Still people are dying in riots
Like the slaughtered goats in altar
Still, people go to sleep with aching stomach
And don’t find a place for night’s shelter.

Our mothers are worried, sisters are panic stricken
When we go out of our home
In our lovely free country
Without tension, we can not roam.

Still beggars beg from door to door
Only for a dole of bread
Grinding poverty, hunger and apathy
Are thing everywhere spread.

When morning sun peeps in the sky
Our children have to go for work
Only some blessed and fortunate people
Wearing shoes and shorts, go to the park. Shakil Ahmed.
