Forever Drowning Poem by Jennifer Sollmann

Forever Drowning

Rating: 5.0

The gentle beating of your heart
Your tantalizing scent
The warmth of your arms
It all drew me in further
I walked out on a broken bridge
It collapsed and left me drowning
If only I could get to the other side
Where you stand watching
With a silent intensity
Your smiling eyes telling me something
That I can’t quite figure out
The pain in my chest gets heavier
It’s dragging me down
I run my fingers through the sediment
I push upwards in an effort
To see your lovely face again
When I break the surface you’re looking away
And the pain forces me down again
The water swirls around me
Crushing all of my hope
But still I persist to reach you
Although I know, I will be forever drowning
