I saw it in your eyes
and I think you meant it

you might not ever look at me that way again
how long will it last?
a week? a month? a year?
will it be the only way to feel as though you're near?

I hope we can hold on longer than this
I expected forever
love and nothing more
forever and nothing less
but now I know (and I should have known before)
that's just a fantasy

forever was a year

but I loved you more in that year
than I loved ever before in my life

the only thing that bothers me
is that when I saw it in your eyes
it was nothing compared
to what I have in my heart

and I don't even know
if it meant that much to you
