For Those Who Believe Poem by Mark Nichols

For Those Who Believe

For those who believe God's way
Is peace and love
Yet sadly say, 'the real world
Doesn't work like that'
'The earth is cruel & unjust'
Let us go and do
'What must be done'
Sing hymns of half-peace and half-love
Wearing masks of half wolf-doves
While we smash face
Bring forth darkness
Pull the switch
Step over grace
Claim the place
Become the race
Which pushes the buttons
Of war & disrespect
Of all God's life
Leaving wounded children to wonder
'How could we
Have judged truth
And acted so fiercely
In contrary motion
To our own God's way?
