For My Sister Poem by Lum Chabot

For My Sister

Rating: 4.0

The things you say, they comfort me so,
As moonlight reflects upon a still bay,
I take them to heart, for I know they’re sincere,
And ever so helping along my weary way,

Blesséd with undying kindness,
Yet I can not hold her gaze,
Her brown eyes, so serene and glistening,
Giving life, like Earth, throughout all my days.

Oh, so pale art thy tone,
Translucent, but not, leaving me dazed,
Yet I know it reflects her purity,
A mind always sharp, ne’er close to being razed,

Her flowing hair, an amalgam of red, black, and brown,
Her passion, her anguish, her secret life, none displayed,
Except but to me, and that one timid other,
I hope for her sake she is ne’er dismayed,

For I would rush to help, ever eager to hear,
Yet fearful, not sure I can aid,
I might worsen her feeling by my fruitless attempts…
But she’ll prove me wrong with one look from her gaze.

The comfort you give, as moonlite reflecting on a bay,
It ever so helps me along my dreary, weary way,
Yet I am still unable to hold her gaze,
Which gives me life, like Earth, throughout all my days,
Thy tone, translucent, yet not, ne’er fails, leaves me dazed,
Her mind ever sharp, Ne’er close to being razed,
Her passion, Her anguish, her secret life not displayed,
But for me and another, hope for her she’s ne’er dismayed,
She aids me, yet I’m fearful I can not return such aid,
But she’ll prove me wrong with one look from her gaze.

And…

It will e’er be this way,
Despite any dismay,
For ever you’ll stay…

In my heart, as a sister, this I’ll ne’er not say.
