For Mice And Men

In a poem rueing the end of the ferry
(replaced by the Harbour Bridge) ,
the poet cannot bring to mind
the word for the steps on a revolving wheel.
Neither can I.
Is it the same word
for steps for men and mice,
or do steps for the latter end in '-ettes',
or begin with 'li'l-' or 'mini-'?

For the way mice walk,
could those steps be 'minci-'?
