For Centuries Of Warring Poem by Francis Duggan

For Centuries Of Warring

For centuries of warring what wisdom have we to show
The war supposed to end all wars was fought nine decades ago
But by far too many have died in wars since then
And in any war even the supposed winners at a huge cost do win
Child soldiers in Africa kidnapped and trained to the gun
The sort of life any mother would not wish for her son
The warlords are evil and they rule by fear
And of awful crimes against children so often we do hear
Crimes against women and children we hear of in war zones every day
And few criminal warlords for their crimes ever do pay
Of new wars every day we do hear of and read
And far too many leaders by bad example do lead
The war supposed to end all wars was fought nine decades ago
And still the numbers of the war dead does grow.
