Footsteps Poem by Chloe Lubinska

Footsteps

What if we just keep running? Running away from here
The pain creeps over reflective lakes, like the scum on milk
Concealing a lake left clear
Sometimes the chiming is so strong it desolates reality
The gradients of black and white churning aching faces
Heaving smiles aloft the nettle sting
Of faith and hope; can they be a thing?
Shrivelling silhouettes ephemeral to the present
Like an offering, a gift, left unopened
The wrapping of many layers
The past a hesitant one
Warping cycles of self neglect
Wake up, wake up, wake up
You tell yourself to get up
And escape this hideous net
But the chimes keep ringing inside your head
Your survival guide, no loyal promise
You know you'll never get
Seeking help may take a while, when you get it
You force a smile
To hide the shade with fake sunshine
Laugh, chatter, lie, what? Your life is divine.
To escape is what you want, making rash decisions
And gloomy regrets you're very good at
But lean back, don't slack, reverse that hack
There will never be a safe haven unless you make peace with your mind
After all, your mind will never leave you, and it will always attack.
