Flight Poem by Sybil Staples

Flight

I want to be here for the right reason:
I soften my hold.
No need to feel so tense.
I can let go.
Yes I can.
Let go.
Let go.
It matters not what for,
The future can wait, can only wait.
I do not need to wait.
I can let go.
Long has been my yearning
to you know Peace's fulfillment.
Peace without delusion;
For that too,
I can let go.
The Hands of permanence
I wish to feel.
And past be undefinable.
I must let go.
Breathe, let go.
Deeper, less grip there.
Before my eyes, my world alight,
As big as I can see.
Release, it cries!
It cries release!
I must let it go.
Peace, oh thankful Peace
I feel a grateful wave
As my reward of acknowledgment.
Pardoned by soft waves
Of forgiveness, which opens the door to Love.
My surface self
Knows not my depths
But begs its importance.
Yes, lying on its ocean,
Surface mind I know well.
But for now,
I must let it go.
Nothing needs me.
I'll let it go.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
An over-preoccupation with the outer world catapults one inward. Forgiveness offers flight from the past. Release and freedom are the rewards.
