First Frost Poem by David Wood

First Frost

Rating: 5.0

An ice cold sky laced with snow
Accompany winters first frost
Frigid air stalked blackbirds
Tip toeing with frozen feet.

Grey trees wake to a frost sapping
Morn, the first to welcome the
New dawn, their grey beards of
Frost hang limply in the cold air.

Roads tempting drivers with black
Ice to hurry with fevers of sleep
Sapping brain and eyes. They are
Lucky to be cocooned in a metal box.

Farmers and others working outside
Testing body against cold with every
Step. Once even I had to caress
A snow hole for warmth and life.

All must embrace winters cold kiss,
Remembering you cannot out wit
Natures sometimes swift hard fist,
It writes a superior page.

Nature is superior and will outlast us. This poem reads like a refreshing but chilling winter's blast.
