First Dance Poem by Lely Atempa

First Dance

Dance is a different story
It's putting emotion into your movement
Making you feel free
As if your problems and worries

Vanished into thin air…

You feel like your flying when your thrown in the air
As your partner is spinning you around
The feeling is beautiful
When both of you are hand and hand

Now it's the day of your performance

The crowd cheers as you dance
Putting all of your energy and emotion into it
The crowd claps and you feel like a superstar
And you also won a trophy as the best dancer

You feel as if you accomplished something in life

Except….

'One, two cha cha cha'
'Three, four spin and dip'
You come back from that daydream
To a harsh reality

Your feet are tired
And your partner keeps stepping on your toes
Great, just great
My toes are dead now

Why do I have to take this class?
Oh yea it's for a grade
The teacher finally says something

'Ok, ok stop, you people can't dance to save your life's, let's do it better this time, ok from the top'

I feel like i'm being tortured
I mean half of my toes are gone
Why don't I feel free when he picks me
Up and spinning me around

Oh yeah, because he wants me to pick him up

This is not dance
This is torture
I don't feel like i'm flying
I feel like I keep hitting the ceiling
