First Born Poem by alex haywood

First Born

Rating: 3.5

Funny I don't remember
the first birth
I remember my mother
being your mother
absent your mother
Helping you become
another mother

I don't remember
how we got to the apartment
or how our first born looked
without looking at old pictures

I do remember
his new baby body
asleep on my chest
sucking on my finger
and how that felt
cozying up
all nice and tight
next to my heart
pushing it aside
making a home
of my chest and
the apartment.
