Fiancée Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Fiancée

Life can take you so much further
Than the eyes can see.
This is what you've instilled in me
Each time you press your lips against mine.
With every piece of yourself that you give me
I take it and put it far
From where you can see.
It does not accrue interest, in fact
I keep it separate
From everything I own.
In the hopes that one day
It will be enough to buy a house big enough
Where I can house you in my arms
And hide the key beneath the gut feelings
Of past insecurities.
And into the discipline of staring into
Your eyes only
