Few Things I Alone Knew Of Poem by Aamir Hussain

Few Things I Alone Knew Of

Rating: 5.0

December ignites the bemoaning of skies
and sorrow of the earth
slogs through time,
to reach the spirit of God

December refutes the wounds of May,
abandons us to new year and new fears,
casts over the night trees,
spells of darkness and snow.

Snow falls
and flakes kiss the cheek of earth
in abundance covering its pale face,
with whiteness and compassion
These are the emotions raining,
from the welled up eye of the sky
These are the mail from heavens
sealing the distances on earth.

Snow falls too over the Raaz bren,
and the lonely Chinar
whose branches are pregnant with poems
and blue herons
And I am sleepless, pinned to the window, crying
envying the night, the silence broken
by the croaking of blue herons,
the occasional flutter of their wings,
envying everything,
but the glory of being a human

I do not wish to cry,
I wish to be like you, blue herons
I wish to approach the sun and burn my wings
I wish to be you
I wish to be dead already, killed,
by the single shot of a hunter

I wish to be sleeping without a care,
under a quilt of snow
I wish to be buried like galena
and become the kohl of your eyes
I wish to be the dog barking in the street,
exchanging insults with armed patrols

I did not wish to cry,
but things I alone knew of made me cry

You are the blessed one, Aamir. I wept when I read it first. I have never known winter, but it snowed in my heart when I read these words. Flake by flake, your words fell and settled snugly on my cheek, while my weeping eyes are still dreaming of the sun the blue heron will kiss.

An amazingly emotional and heartfelt poem, Aamir! Your imagery paints a picture of your sadness within your heart and mind, a very vivid one! Your poem is a beautiful and satisfying way to touch upon your feelings, expressing them so they will not fester and cause more pain. You are in my prayers, Aamir. Thank you for sharing your heart.
