Fear Poem by Robert Glass

Fear

The strange sensation
Rising in my heart
Became a chill,
Then began spiraling outward,
Working its way
Through my DNA.
My heart pounded -
It was the fierce drumbeat
Of a crazed band,
And the sourness of my mouth
Sluiced into my gullet.
Alarms and sirens
Of my mind
Ululated to code orange
Degrees.
Tremblings awoke in my legs
Like the first grumblings
Of a dragon's throat.
My breath stifled...
And none of this
Would be
If we hadn't given
Fear
A name.
