Father To A Son Poem by Chad Shumate

Father To A Son

Son I need to let you know,
That I will be there, every inch you grow.

From the time that you walk,
Until the time that you can talk.

Although your first word will probably be Mom,
It’s okay, from Daddy.com.

My job will be to raise you from a boy to a man,
I will promise to do the best that I can.

After I teach you about the birds and the bees,
You will have questions about the little girlies.

You are to treat them kind, respectable and be generous,
There will be time for joking, but you also have to be serious.

We can’t forget loving and caring,
Be careful; don’t let her use you when you are sharing.

At some point, your heart will be broken; this is not the end,
Remember I’m your Father and Dad, also a friend.

When trying times come your way,
Just say Dad I need help, I won’t lead you astray.

The moment has come where you enter adulthood,
I hope you’ve heard what I’ve said and understood.

Son, go out there and make me a proud dad,
I’ve given you all of the tools that I had.

Now I’ve played the parent game and I know I won,
This has been from a Father to a Son.
