Farewell Harry Patch (The Last Surviving Tommy) Poem by ANDREW BLAKEMORE

Farewell Harry Patch (The Last Surviving Tommy)

Rating: 5.0

A wise old voice can speak no more
Of wasted lives all lost in war,
Who braved the trenches caked with mud
And battlefields all soaked with blood,
Who saw his comrades die each day
Those memories would not fade away,
Such tales of horror and despair
From one who knew, for he was there.

His time on earth now at an end
He's gone to meet each fallen friend,
And there in heaven he shall dwell
With heavy heart I bid farewell,
A man of peace a man so kind
A legacy he left behind,
To love not hate your fellow man
And live by God's immortal plan.

A soldier witness of war indeed would be carrying a lot stories of tragedies and his end will certainly deny the opportunity to know many more truth about war! A good and thought provoking tribute!
