Fallen Idols Poem by Gary Diamond

Fallen Idols

fallen idols.
many spring to mind.
but don't look to them for advice.

they've already had their time and failed.
they broke because their system did.
they never had one in the first place.

you can take it from anywhere
just don't take it from me.
i gave up those sort of dreams years ago
or so i say.
i'm not here in person
but i'll make a move anyway.

so you can stick their posters on the wall.
shots of peak and glory, never of the fall.
remember that you're stronger than what they've made you.
or what you chose to make yourself into because of them.

remember that words and pictures
don't make a man
merely describe him.

i'm not a myth.
i'm not an urban legend.
i'm just a story
that you dreamt up
in your mind.
