Faceless Poem by Snow Summers

Faceless

The paintings and pictures, exhibiting features
straying so far from familiar creatures
Da Vinci’s depicts a figure through poses
lashes and gashes, with freckles and noses

When faced with the world, I’m devoid of a face
Something horrific has taken its place
A vermilion shade layers my skin
reflecting completely all that’s within

Just a lingering flush tells my cognizant mother
And the slightest blood rush leads to well-informed others
The closest of kin and the worst of my foes
A diaphanous heart which everyone knows

Oh, Mona Lisa, how I envy her so
her ambiguous tale, which we’ll never know
I’m transparent as glass, yet so easy to shatter
My heartbeat, it blares, with each pitter- patter

But what do I care if the milkman can see
the quiver and quake, pulsing through me?
And everyone sees it and everyone knows
But to my beloved, my love never shows

Facelessly loving the one I am facing
Muffle my heart, the sound of its racing
Got no disguise, or convincing front
Love always speaks out, impossibly blunt
