Eyes Now Open Poem by Alyssa Baker

Eyes Now Open

A glorious light fills the room
Though shines only through the cracks
I wait and anticipate what happens next
Unsure of what to do

Time continues to pass
And the light starts to dim
Music fills my ears with a splendid glimmer

My heart starts to pound as I reach for the door
Skipping a beat when it is there no more
Back down the stairs and all has stopped
I hear the voice of the one I lost

The walls cave in as I search for the voice
An empty dark space is all I perceive
Until my eyes start to open
To the world I long to be in

The window is open
And the wind floats against my glowing face
The sunlight creeps in
This is the world I long to be in

No longer alone I hear the voice again
Coaching me to the windows edge

A hand touches mine and calms me from fear
While soothing my rough skin the angel appears
The prince I had hoped for
To save me from here

The scars remain but my heart is healed
I will never go down that path again
Never have the wounds,
Never be in darkness,
And never be alone.
