Even If I Give Up Poem by Shalom Freedman

Even If I Give Up

EVEN IF I GIVE UP

Even if I give up
All the Dreams of Writing
I still have to live
And still try not to die in disgrace
And be a burden to those I love-

So I will work now
As a Caretaker again
For poor pay
When I old myself
Do not wish to be among the old and infirm
And do not know if the money made will suffice-

I gave my Life to Writing
It did not pay Money
But I did what I needed and wanted to do-
May God have mercy upon me for the rest.
