Eternal Rhythm Poem by Danny Draper

Myriad intricate subtle interactions,
infinite private inaudible conversations,
With laser pointer unpick each star
from a faint galaxy's hazy smear,
to find each a galaxy cluster.
Coronal mass ejection dross,
electrons scream to polar halt,
Dance Aurora borealis
and conversely A. australis.
Photons bounce clouds chaotic edge
or are absorbed by trees solar cells,
Pump of fibres osmotic load
of sweet and mineral wealth.
By stomates, vapour wisps and
rain clouds grow,
At dew point fall and vanish
nutrients deluge in solution,
sustain and replenish,
Surge down stems and trunk
past interception by leaves and bark,
moss and lichens, vines and epiphytes.
Tapestries of filaments
growing and unravelled,
Aerial roots a tangle, dangle,
Stalactite threads descend,
Droplets cling by surface tension
Imbibed or hang at inverted distal ends.
Mycelium cords of hyphal strands
innocuous or insidious, explore,
insinuate, recycle or overcome,
pause, a truce in the soaking interval.
Leaf litter in perfect disarray,
layers decayed and shredded,
soaks in the swift brief drenching,
Pulse of storm roar to whisper
infuses with the thirsty earth
into the A horizon leaching humic acid,
Cations exchange with inundated peds on
a beach of surface area,
Dispersed in moistened rhizosphere,
a forest of reticulated roots and nodules
sup across semi-permeable membranes.
Worms tunnel and beetles burrow,
microbes in countless diversity flourish
on and between every soil grain.
Trunk stretched taut through canopy
covets sun drenched skies aloft,
Emergent in the drifting night,
stars and galaxies turn through crown
of structural branches as pneumatophores,
to shoals of bait fish on scavenging tide,
Glint to phosphorescence an indefinite code,
plea or salutation, set i' this life imbrued void,
riding the pulse, in sync, its beat a
slow, near silent, ambient sigh;
palpable hush, imbue eternal rhythm.
