Eternal Revenge Poem by Srivishnu Rentala

Eternal Revenge

Rating: 3.5

In the shingles of Munisia Abbey
resided gaily a Dog and a Tabby.
It wasn't at all bizarre those days,
when dog and cat didn't put up a chase.
So in that blissful friendship that existed
They roamed the jungle that subsisted.

'My cat, please care to fulfill
the demand to guard my snack.
As I take a dip in the brook uphill,
let nobody steal it until I come back'.

The cat didn't give it another thought
for it was dog's friendship that he sought.
So he obliged, didn't babble more
as it was in fact a rudimentary chore.

The sack of nosh lied there stiff,
as the cat delivered on the stuff
gentle pecks, nibbles and sniffs.
He dug a miniscule hole for pleasure
where he placed inside, dog's treasure.
Thereupon he snuggled for a doze,
As nothing exciting arose.

Meanwhile a monkey, atop a tree
watched cat's action with glee.
He undid the site where the booty lay,
grabbed it and smuggled it away.

When dog returned, he was baffled.
'Who dares to eat my delicious snack? '
His foaming fury awoke the cat,
who by then realized the missing sack.
'It ain't me, believe me' the cat pleaded.
But the dog refused to heed.

And so till this day we often see
the cat on sighting a dog, flees.
The dog chases poor old cat
in attempt to arrive back at
what once belonged to him.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was always amused at the sight of a dog chasing a cat as soon as it gets the chance. Then it dawned upon me as to why things are like that!
